There Is No Substitute for Quality

No surprise, the shows that I like best so far this season are the ones that I was expecting the most out of.  Assassination Classroom and Durarara! were my most anticipated shows for Winter 2015.

Assassination Classroom is an odd mix  that shouldn’t really work on paper, but so far the show is managing a juggling act that is worthy of a renaissance fair.  The first episode managed a morality lesson, some action, some comedy, and an introduction to a ludicrous premise.  I’ll be interested to see how long they can keep this up.  If it is for all 22 episodes this will probably be my favorite show this season.

Durarara! picked up where the last season left off, bouncing between timelines and characters and generally confusing the crap out of me.  I couldn’t be happier.  (Well, it could have used a dash of Russian Sushi)  If you haven’t seen the first season of Durarara!, you have some binge watching to do.  If you have seen it, you’ll be happy to know that this season appears to be more of the same.

Anime Power Rankings, Winter 2015 week 1:

1. Assassination Classroom

2. Durarara!

3. Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

4. KanColle

5. Testament of Sister New Devil

Unranked. Isuca, The Rolling Girls
